Not every business breakthrough is a bold new strategy. Sometimes, it’s just the right equipment. Tonny Wilson found that out firsthand while running his hotshot trucking business with a Dodge dually and a 40-foot trailer — until he noticed a shift toward smaller loads that didn’t quite fit his setup. With guidance from BBRC, he made a change that reshaped how he works day to day. Here’s his story.
Noticing a Gap, Finding a Fix
Before I got connected with BBRC, I was running my hotshot business with my Dodge dually and a 40-foot trailer. I started noticing more smaller loads coming up, but it didn’t always make sense to pull those with the big trailer because of the extra fuel and wear. I knew a smaller trailer would help me handle those loads better, but I needed the right support and direction to make that move.
I got connected with BBRC in 2024 after a friend mentioned the organization to me. I started attending some of their programs and workshops, and they helped me see the business side of things a little clearer.
They talked about things like keeping good records, staying organized, and thinking ahead about how to grow the business. They also helped me get the resources I needed to add a smaller trailer to my operation, which made a big difference for me.
One of the Best Moves I've Made
After adding the smaller trailer, my business started running a lot smoother. I can take loads that make sense without always pulling the big trailer. That helps save on fuel and makes it easier to stay working. Since adding the smaller trailer, I have more flexibility to take loads that make sense for my business, which keeps me working and bringing in more revenue.
Truth is, I probably use it more than my 40-foot trailer now. It lets me take loads that fit the job instead of burning extra fuel pulling the big trailer when I don’t need to. It also opened up more types of loads for me to haul. The smaller trailer ended up being one of the best moves for my business, and I’m thankful BBRC helped me get the resources to make it happen.
Advice to Other Entrepreneurs
I would recommend BBRC to other business owners because they provide real support and resources that help small business owners move forward. They helped me make a decision that improved my business and made it easier for me to keep working and growing.
