  • How One Networking Event Led to a Game-Changing Contract for Q Rock Movers

Meet LeNardo Oliver, Co-Owner of Q Rock Movers LLC, and learn how a BBRC connection helped take his business to the next level.

Four years ago, LeNardo Oliver hustled daily to find steady work. As the co-owner of Q Rock Movers LLC, a dump truck hauling company, he often picked up jobs by the week, sometimes lasting just a few days, joining crews wherever possible.

“I was basically looking for work day to day,” LeNardo shared. “There wasn’t a lot of consistency.”

That changed when he got involved with the Birmingham Business Resource Center (BBRC).

He began attending BBRC-hosted networking events and recently made a connection that changed the course of his business. At that event, Leonardo was introduced to representatives from one of the region’s largest general contractors, who happened to be working on utility infrastructure for a major utility company.

That introduction, facilitated directly by BBRC, led to Q Rock Movers being awarded a contract to work directly with the general contractor!

“Instead of working under another subcontractor, I got to work directly for the GC,” LeNardo said. “That’s a big step. It’s been a game-changer.”

But the networking event wasn’t the only factor that helped. LeNardo credits BBRC’s hands-on support with the paperwork as essential to sealing the deal.

“What I found out—and a lot of small business owners will say the same—is that what keeps us from growing is the paperwork. It’s not always the work itself. It’s knowing how to get in the door,” he explained.

BBRC’s team didn’t do the paperwork for him, but they walked him through every step—from reviewing forms and financials to ensuring he was submission-ready.

“They won’t fill it out for you, but they’ll hold your hand and walk you to the door,” LeNardo said. “And that makes all the difference.”

Takeaway for Small Business Owners:

The path to your next opportunity might be one connection away—but you have to show up, ask for help, and commit to learning the process.

BBRC is here to help you do just that.
