Civil Rights District Marketplace
The Birmingham Business Resource Center (BBRC) was proud to partner with Mastercard to showcase local businesses in collaboration with the World of Opportunity Vendor Program, a division of The World Games 2022 Birmingham. In July 2022, countries from across the globe enjoyed a taste of the Magic City, and the BBRC ensured visitors also experienced Black-owned businesses by launching the Civil Rights District Marketplace.
Visitors were encouraged to support local Black-owned businesses by using their Mastercard®.
Â
Shoppers received up to $50 credit per cardholder. The offer was valid from 7/7/22 to 7/17/22 or until max program reimbursement was met, whichever occurred first.
This event highlighted Black-owned businesses, entertainers and artisans during a five-day festival. It took place at the National Monument, Kelly Ingram Park. The historic park is the site of civil rights demonstrations and protests in the 1960s. The marketplace honored the trailblazers who paved the way for equity in Alabama and shows the world Birmingham’s progress. The marketplace was open July 8 through July 16.
